The exact date of the flower bud differenciation helps to determine the critic timeof the floral induction. The reproductive condition cannot be changed, once thisperiod has been reached.Kobel, 1954 (4), established that this critica! period of the flower induction, takesplace a month befare the floral differenciation. This has been checked by other workerson the basis of ringing branches, or thinning out leaves. This latter treatment wasmade by Mueller-Thurgau, 1928 (5), and Harley and Magness, cited by Kobel, 1954(4); sarching for vegetative bud formation, they found that the effect was not constantafter 55 days from bloom, and ceased completely after 120 days. This indicates thatinduction period takes place 55 days after bloom.Assuming that in apples the full bloom finished october 1st, the critical date to influence positively the floral bud induction, will be november 25th.
