Three rations were compared using nine Holstein cows in a winter feeding trial. Thecows received corn silage ad libitum twice daily and 2 Kg. of concentrates oncea day; treatment A contained no dried sugar beet-pulp, while treatment B contained 4Kg. and treatmen C, 8 Kg.
Total dry matter consumption was 10.68, 12.02 and 13.13 Kg/day, on the treatmentA, B and C, respectively. Per each kilogram of extra sugar-beet pulp dry matter eaten, the daily silage consumption declined 0.62 Kg. as dry matter on the treatmentB and 0.66 kg. on the treatment C. The TND consumecl daily were 6.4, 7.5and .8.5 Kg. on ration A, B and C., respectively, with an average of daily milk production ot 6.98, 7.91 and 8.92 Kg. The fat content of milk did not differ significantly among treatment, but the solids-not-fat increased significantly from 8,43 percent on treatment A to 8.85 per cent on treatment C (P<0.05). This increase wasmainly due to the protein fraction of thc milk.
The cows on treatment C produced milk at lower cost and gave higher returns peranimal.
