Three volcanic ash-derived soils, known to have a high P-fixing capacity were usedto study the interaction between added phosphate and seaweed with the soil and itseffect on phosphorus availability to wheat plants. The tendency observed was thatthe higher the amount of phosphate added the stronger the interaction which increasesthe quantity of P absorbed by wheat. The interactions were measured by applying the concept ΔP and ΔY to mixturescomposed by soil, seaweed and monocalcium phosphate. P is defined as thequantity of phosphorus absorbed by wheat and Y as the increment in the yield, both under the influence of the interaction phosphorus-seaweed-soil. The tendencies above described were deducted by calculating ∑ΔP and∑ΔYvalues which would represent a measurement of the overall effect of seaweed onphosphorus availability throughout a 180 days period. |
