Bean yellow mosaic virus was found to be the causal agent of a severe diseaseaffecting commercial beans in Chile. The diagnosis was based on differential host range, physical properties, aphidtransmission, particle morphology ancl length and observation of virus inclusions inthe infected plant tissue. The virus produces top necrosis in most bean cultivars, the thermal inactivationpoint is between 50 and 55°C and the dilution end-point between 1 : 3000 and 1 : 5000.The virus shows stylet-borne transmission by Myzus persicae. Flexuos rod-shapedparticles are 850 nm. Pinwheel inclusions are found associated with infected tissue ofGlycine max (soybean) . |
