Rooting ability of Vitis vinifera cv. Sultanina and Vitis champini cv. Dogridgewas studied in relation to cutting position in the cane and time of collection (onlyfor difficult-to-root Dogridge).
Both species showed different rooting ability. Alter 60 days in a propagation bench,dormant basal cuttings of Sultanina showed larger number of rooted cuttings, rootsand root-weight than medium and terminal sections. Dogridge was unable to root.
Single bud green cuttings of Dogridge showed greater rooting ability in early summer than in march and april. Terminal nodes showed larger number of rootedcuttings than basal. A similar trend was observed on number, fresh and dry weight of roots.
